I have trayed this trick and it worked for me. My xbox 360 was out of warrany and had 3 red lights. So the opening of the box and hot air gun is too much time for me so i tried this crazy trick and it worked in 1 shot! I can't be arsed with all the console wars bullshit. I have both. 360 cost £250 and now has the red ring of death and has destroyed a few discs too. PS3 cost £350 and has a cool blue light of awesomeness and doesn't destroy discs. You get what you pay for, both are good though. One thing is for sure,....neither of them are shit. If only one of them existed we'd all own that one so grow up dicks.

no there is a heating tub for the GPS (Graphics Proccesing Unit) which would have worked if it were bigger but to fit the DVD player they made it small and so when the heat works up the Heat tub doesnt do anything and causes the GPS to come loose causing the Red Ring Of Death. You can make a Permanent fix on the Xbox360 if you watch a Vid Plus PS3 sucks but it could have been better if they madfe better games i dont want to be an idiot and start a fight though

the poor design of the Xbox causes it to overheat and and wiring inside fucks up which causes Red Ring of Death. The Towel heats it up so much the wiring "melts" back in place, but it's a HUUGE gamble and for some it works for an hr others 2 weeks. Just get a ps3 it works in about ANY conditions.
