rocka billy makes me want to be born on the 50s but chuck berry invented it then elvis but chuck berry invented it, grundge metal thrash rockabilly punk and all that great 60s rock he was the base of it all.

saskabush, I agree with you in that rock n' roll was done before Elvis, but rockabilly was never performed, at least at the beginning, by Bill Haley. If anything, Haley was more influenced by swing/big band. None of his stuff sounds like Rockabilly.The sound of Rockabilly came with Elvis. HOwever, the edges are blurry. To me rockabilly is country music with an edge, and died out after say 1957.Most early rock with country roots sounded little like rockabily, both musically and/or lyrically.

Sigh. Once again the historical record is skewed by those who don't have any knowledge of what happened before Elvis. Elvis came along in 1954, but whether you think rockabilly is just white RnB or what, the historical fact remains that Bill Haley was doing this in 1951. And there were other artists like Charlie Gracie and Lou Graham doing rockabilly long before Elvis set foot into Sun Records. He was never the first.
