The story is about a man who is stuck in a monotonous, boring life. Hes a victim of the working world. Getting up 9 to 5. Same routine every day. "hed wake up and pour himself into uniform" "lost on a road he knew by heart"In the second verse ed lets us know that this trouble guy escapes the real world by "hiding in his radio" and drifting"...While he escapes thru music..the "dirt turns to sand", meaning the stressful real world, turns into a heavenly beach that he can escape to.

this is a song i beleive, that you feel that your life is some repeating phase and then you break that phase and realize that your life has changed because of sleight of hand, which means that something stolen away from you, so his old life is stolen away from his new life, which means this old life is changed by some kind of indifference between his old life and new life and i beleive he thinks his new life is better
